The Department
The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves several clinical areas and units including Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Health delivers a comprehensive suite of services which involves a range of diagnostic services, surgical, radiation and oncology therapies and the Integrative Oncology Unit and Wellness Centre for cancer patients, which commenced operations in 2024.
The Role
The Grade 2 Physiotherapist will provide patient-centred supportive care to cancer patients within the Integrative Oncology Unit and Wellness Centre at Alfred Cancer, based in the PFMCC outpatient setting. The Grade 2 Physiotherapist is responsible for the ongoing development and provision of physiotherapy service to the unit, and programs assigned to the physiotherapist.
Key Responsibilities
- Provision of Person-Centred Holistic Care: Evaluate physical health and exercise needs to support patient health and wellbeing goals.
- Develop and implement individualised physiotherapy treatment plans for cancer patients to help manage symptoms, improve function, and enhance quality of life.
- Exercise Program Delivery: Lead 1:1 intervention and group programs, including the established “Stronger Together” exercise program.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including medical, nursing, allied health, and complementary therapists/practitioners, to provide supportive care to patients.
- Patient & Carer Education: Provide evidence-based education sessions for patients and carers, on the benefits of physiotherapy and exercise in cancer care and empower them to actively participate in developing their treatment plan
Requirements
- Physiotherapist registered to practice in the state of Victoria (AHPRA)
- Advanced knowledge of the provision of physiotherapy practice in oncology/cancer care
- Team player and ability to work closely with medical, nursing and allied health staff
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workloads within an inter-disciplinary team
