THE DEPARTMENT
Dietetic and Nutrition Services are provided at The Alfred, Sandringham and Caulfield Hospital’s. The joint Nutrition department is comprised of approximately 48 EFT and 65 people. The department is organised into eight clinical streams and provides a 7-day service. The Dietetic and Nutrition Department has had a long and valued relationship within the Alfred, with the first dietitian being employed in 1930. The department has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence. It has a strong relationship with Monash and Latrobe University Nutrition Departments and is integral to clinical teaching and training of undergraduate dietitians.
THE ROLE
As the Senior Dietitian for Specialty Medicine, you will co-lead the clinical operations of a small stream of dietitians in Alfred Health’s Nutrition Department. This position also leads nutrition service delivery for patients attending the Type 1 Diabetes service and those under the care of the Heart Failure unit. Clinical expertise in the management of chronic conditions in both acute and ambulatory settings with a focus on cardiology and diabetes, strong leadership skills and a proven track record of co-ordination and implementation of quality initiatives in clinical nutrition are key aspects of this role. The position works with, and supports a team of dietitians working in medical specialty services including cardiology, renal, endocrinology, infectious diseases and rheumatology. The Senior Specialty Medicine Dietitian is part of the Dietetics and Nutrition Senior Team, with opportunities to grow leadership skills and engage in relevant research, quality work and professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Possesses qualifications providing eligibility for full membership of the Dietitians’ Australia (DA) and participation in the APD program.
- 7 years clinical experience, with specialist experience in diabetes and/or cardiology of at least 3 years.
- Desirable to have experience in the nutritional management of insulin pumps.
- Higher qualification in or proceeding towards in Nutrition, Management, Public Health & Research. (Highly desirable)
