DEPARTMENT:
Alfred Health's Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Rehabilitation Ward provides rehabilitation services for people with moderate to severe acquired brain injuries including traumatic brain injuries, stroke, hypoxic brain injuries and other causes of non-progressive brain injury. The ward is part of a specialist Statewide ABI Rehabilitation service that also includes a community rehabilitation team and a 4-bed Transitional Living Service (TLS).
This position is based within the inpatient ward and may also provide services to TLS. The position is also part of the Psychology Department which provides great access to supervision, professional development and professional support.
Psychology registrars will be supported through the registrar program to gain clinical endorsement, and will be enrolled in Alfred Health’s Psychology Registrar Learning and Development Program. This includes regular professional development workshops and the chance to network with other psychology registrars working across the hospital network
The ABI psychology team includes twelve Clinical Psychologists and Neuropsychologists. There is plenty of opportunity for supervision, mentoring and professional development.
In the Role you will
Undertake clinical work which is diverse, interesting and often complex.
- Frequent presenting issues include: mood and anxiety disorders; grief and adjustment; pre-morbid psychiatric disorders; emotional distress; behavioural change and relationship issues.
- Deliver high quality psychological assessment and intervention services to individuals with ABI and their families.
- Demonstrate a commitment to a patient centred and goal directed approach to psychological service delivery.
- Engage in liaison and joint work with other clinicians. Teamwork is core to the service.
- Demonstrate a capacity to collaborate effectively within the interdisciplinary clinical team and with patients and their families.
- Have the opportunity to participate in research
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- An approved degree with a major in psychology and post graduate qualifications (Masters or Doctorate) in Clinical Psychology.
- Registrars are welcome to apply
- AHPRA Registration as a Psychologist is required.
- Current Victorian Working With Children Check
DESIRABLE
- AHPRA Endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist
- Clinical experience in and knowledge of the psychological consequences of ABI.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in psychological treatment, behavioural assessment and behaviour support and psycho-education of clients with ABI, developmental disorders or mental health conditions.
