Applications are invited for a Professor and Director of Rheumatology to work up to 17.50 hours per week at Alfred Care Group and Monash University.
The Department of Rheumatology is a tertiary referral service that manages all forms of rheumatological disorders. It is staffed by rheumatologists that provide inpatient and outpatient support to the community. It operates multiple clinics that diagnose and manage rheumatological disorders from musculoskeletal ailments to complex immunological disorders.
The Professor Director of Rheumatology will provide strategic, clinical and academic leadership across Alfred Care Group and Monash University to deliver high-quality, patient-centred rheumatology services, education and research. The role is responsible for leading the Department’s clinical governance, service development, workforce management, teaching and research activities to support excellence in patient care, operational performance and academic achievement. The appointee will work collaboratively across Bayside Health and Monash University to strengthen multidisciplinary care, expand research and teaching programs and support the ongoing development of a world-class rheumatology service.
The role calls for a visionary leader and accomplished manager with extensive expertise in rheumatology. Ideally, they will also possess a national/international reputation for academic excellence as evidenced by publications, grants and other scholarly achievements.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Our preferred candidate must possess the following experience and attributes:
- Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) without conditions, undertakings or reprimands that could impact on their clinical practice.
- Fellowship of the relevant college(s).
- Ability to meet Alfred Care Group credentialing and scope of practice requirements for Rheumatology.
- Demonstrable extensive knowledge and experience in Rheumatology.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching.
- A higher research degree, or equivalent research achievement as demonstrated by published work and research grant success.
- Outstanding communication skills, including well-developed conflict resolution skills
- Ability to liaise well with other staff at all levels
- Demonstrated flexibility in problem solving and the capability to develop and sustain highly collaborative relationships with others/ other teams.
This appointment will be made by a joint Alfred Care Group/Monash University selection committee. The appointment will be for a period of up to three years.
