THE DEPARTMENT
Alfred Care Group’s Physiotherapy Department provides acute physiotherapy services to the patients of The Alfred and Sandringham Hospital and subacute physiotherapy services to Caulfield Hospital.
The acute physiotherapy service is organised into five functional streams, namely: Intensive Care, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, PAN (Progressive Illness, Aged Care and Neurosciences), and Sandringham. The first four streams are located at The Alfred site, with the fifth and latter stream based at the Sandringham site. The physiotherapy service provides acute clinical services and expertise in the following areas: intensive care, cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, orthopaedics, trauma, burns, lung transplantation, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary rehabilitation, neurology and neurosurgery, infectious diseases, haematology / oncology, general medicine, haemophilia and emergency.
Caulfield Hospital Physiotherapy Department provides an extensive range of inpatient and ambulatory services in the areas of rehabilitation, health of the older person and residential care services. The physiotherapy department has more than 50 staff with another 15 physiotherapists working in other ambulatory and community services on site. The department provides subacute clinical services and expertise in the following areas: ABI, neurology, non-traumatic spinal cord injury, orthopaedics, amputees, burns, pain, Health of Older Person, aged care (GEM), transitional care and aged psychiatry. The subacute physiotherapy service is organised into four functional streams: Neurological Rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, Health of Older Persons (HOP) and ABI.
The Alfred Care Group Physiotherapy Department has more than 100 EFT and employs over 170 staff. The physiotherapy service has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence. It remains strongly committed to further pursuing excellence in physiotherapy, through clinical research. The Alfred Care Group Physiotherapy Department is a major partner in the Alfred Care Group Physiotherapy Clinical Schools for both La Trobe and Monash Universities and in this role provides core and elective clinical placements for more than 50 undergraduate physiotherapy students.
THE ROLE
The Physiotherapy Deputy Manager works closely with, and supports, the Physiotherapy Manager in the operational leadership and management of the Physiotherapy Department. They support includes:
- Leadership, management and professional practice support of the Physiotherapy service to ensure the provision of high quality Physiotherapy services in accordance with Alfred Care Group strategic and operational plans and Physiotherapy professional practice standards.
- Management of specific, allocated physiotherapy operational responsibilities and / or Physiotherapy leadership portfolios.
- Allied Health leadership to an Alfred Care Group clinical program, via an Allied Health leadership portfolio.
- Responsibilities for ensuring expert clinical intervention is provided and that clinical care is provided in accordance with best practice professional standards and other relevant external standards.
- Advising on the strategic direction of the Physiotherapy service and the contribution to the allied health service within the clinical programs, in consultation with the Physiotherapy Manager.
- Working collaboratively with operational managers to support achievement of broader allied health goals.
- Performing other duties as required and delegated by the Discipline Manager, Director of Allied Health or Deputy Director(s) of Allied Health.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Registered to practice in the state of Victoria (AHPRA)
- Postgraduate qualifications in physiotherapy, health service management, leadership, or a related field (Masters level or above)
- Demonstrated experience in a senior leadership or management role within a complex hospital or health service environment
- Strong strategic thinking capability, with experience contributing to service planning, redesign and organisational change initiatives
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary workforce, including experience in supervision, mentoring and performance management
- Well-developed understanding of clinical governance, quality and safety frameworks, and professional practice standards
- Experience in workforce planning, resource allocation and financial management within a healthcare settingE
- stablished ability to build and sustain effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including clinical, operational and executive leaders
- Experience supporting or leading research, quality improvement and innovation initiatives, with a commitment to evidence-based practice
- Strong knowledge of contemporary allied health issues, policy directions and workforce challenges within the public health sector
- Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to drive change and achieve outcomes across complex systems
