The Department

The Dietetics & Nutrition department provides an integrated dietetic and nutrition service at The Alfred, Sandringham and Caulfield Hospitals. The Department has had a long and valued relationship within the Alfred, with the first ever dietitian in Victoria being appointed at The Alfred in 1930.

Dietetics & Nutrition department aims to provide nutritional care to Alfred Health’s patients during their healthcare journey including prevention of malnutrition, and optimising nutritional wellbeing and recovery. Services are delivered at in/outpatient and outreach settings.

The Dietetics & Nutrition department is comprised of approximately 40 EFT consisting of dietitians, nutrition assistants and clinical support staff. The department is organised into nine clinical clusters across the health service and also has professional accountability for dietitians at Caulfield Community Care and Community Rehabilitation Centre.

The department has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence. An active research program is well supported by research grants and links with academic institutions. There is a strong relationship with Monash and La Trobe Universities Nutrition Departments and the department is integral to the clinical teaching and training of undergraduate dietitians

 

The Position Summary

The Manager of Dietetics & Nutrition is the professional lead across Alfred Health and is responsible for ensuring the Dietetics and Nutrition workforce is fit-for-purpose and that the right person is completing the right task, at the right time. They are responsible for:

  • The overall leadership and management of the Dietetics & Nutrition Department to ensure the provision of high-quality Dietetics and Nutrition services in accordance with Alfred Health strategic and operational plans and Dietetics & Nutrition professional practice standards.
  • Operational and professional responsibility for staff within Alfred Health Dietetics and Nutrition Department.
  • Professional accountability for all Dietitians at Caulfield Community Health Service, Caulfield Community Rehabilitation, and Psychiatry Services.
  • Ensuring that Nutrition issues are well represented within Alfred Health and externally.

 

Skills and Qualification Required

  • Post-graduate clinical qualifications or health services management/administration/ business management at Masters level or higher.
  • Possess qualifications providing eligibility for full membership of the Dietitians’ Association of Australia (DAA) and participates in the Accredited Practicing Dietitian Program or equivalent
  • Experience in the delivery and/or management of a Nutrition and Dietetic service in a hospital environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of organisational change concepts and practices, with the ability to lead and manage a team through change
  • Extensive past experience in the supervision and mentoring of Dietitians, students and support staff.
