The Department

The Alfred hospital is a Melbourne icon. For more than 150 years it has been providing leading health care services to the people of Victoria and beyond. The Alfred Foundation creates and nurtures philanthropic partnerships between the community and The Alfred, generating funds that lead to better health care. Well known for exceptional Trauma and Emergency Units, The Alfred also provides world-class research and treatment in the areas of Heart, Cancer, Neurology, Mental Health and Organ Transplants. Philanthropy has enabled The Alfred Foundation to work together to drive innovation at the hospital, purchase new equipment, redevelop and expand facilities to improve patient care, support research, fund scholarships, build knowledge and share learnings with the world.

The Role

The position has broad responsibilities for implementing Gift in Will activities in line with The Alfred Foundation’s strategy. This person will build and nurture relationships with supporters of The Alfred, with a view to enlisting and retaining their support as donors. They will engage in routine administration tasks such as recording donor information in our database, following up donors by mail and telephone, and liaising with our suppliers. The person will staff events in support of our donor program. In particular this role will support growth in GIW giving through channels including direct mail, telemarketing, face-to-face and online.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and help develop best practice GIW fundraising and marketing to raise funds for The Alfred Foundation
  • Gift in Wills Program support
    • Work with the GIW Manager to implement the GIW product, comms and process to help increase volumes and revenue.
    • Liaise with donors helping steward their relationship, and manage their accounts and queries
    • Help design, plan and implement GIW program promotion across various channels including social media, and TAF website.
  • Act as the key point of contact for donor calls to maximise their support of The Alfred
  • Identify opportunities to develop and implement new fundraising initiatives to attract a broader cross section of GIW support
  • Employ new technologies to broaden the reach of the GIW program
  • Assist with general Philanthropy related administration and coordination
  • Develop and implement special events to steward donors 
  • Attend key Philanthropy and GIW events
  • Work collaboratively with The Alfred Foundation colleagues and team

About You

  • Experience in implementing fundraising activities is desirable
  • Experience in planning, coordinating and implementing direct mail appeals
  • Experience with community program, special, corporate and donor events
  • Experience in working with volunteers
  • Degree qualified in a related discipline would be an advantage but not essential

Qualifications and Experience required

  • People skills – Strong listening & communication skills, empathy, maturity & sensitivity
  • Experience working with a CRM (Salesforce – desirable)
  • Recent experience in GIW or at least fundraising sector
  • General office skills particularly Microsoft Office esp. Excel
  • Event support – driver’s license and willingness to attend and staff events as required
  • Basic design - Canva or similar to prepare materials for donors
  • Highly organised
  • Be mature in outlook, articulate, responsible and people oriented with great communication skills
  • Be self-motivated with strong time management skills
  • Have an ethical approach to their work and a clear understanding of issues relating to privacy and confidentiality
  • Ability to work with volunteers
  • Be flexible and willing to learn
  • Have an excellent eye for detail
