We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department

Alfred Health Support Services provides non-clinical support services across Alfred Health. These include cleaning services, car parking and fleet management, waste management, gardens and grounds, distribution, security and access control, ward support, linen services, ancillary services, food services, and hospitality.

The Role

We are seeking a talented and creative Chef to join our team at Ngamai Wilam, Victoria’s first residential eating disorder treatment facility. This unique 12-bed centre is at the forefront of specialised care, and the Chef plays a vital role in supporting therapeutic and dietary needs through exceptional food preparation.

Working collaboratively with the Head Chef and clinical staff, you will craft nutritious, high-quality meals that meet strict dietary guidelines and enhance the patient experience.

This role is based at Ngamai Wilam, a residential eating disorder treatment facility located in Armadale. This centre is the first of its kind in Victoria. The Chef plays a central role that requires creativity, problem-solving, and knowledge of multiple cuisines. Experience in café and restaurant settings is highly regarded.

There is an opportunity to pick up extra shifts across Alfred Health in addition to the set days.

This role offers a set roster from Friday to Sunday and includes working alongside experienced Food Service Assistants. You will be expected to maintain the highest standards of food safety and hygiene in compliance with relevant health regulations.

The Chef is responsible for ensuring that all menu items are of the highest quality and meet nutritional guidelines. The Chef will be supported by experienced Food Service Assistants on each shift. You will be expected to perform in a manner that meets or exceeds industry best practice and maintain cleaning standards in accordance with:

  • The Department of Human Services Cleaning Standards for Public Hospitals
  • Food safety practices in line with the onsite Food Safety Plan
  • The Food Act 1984
  • FSANZ standards

You will work closely with other Food Services team members to ensure we maintain a committed, safe, and socially responsible multi-skilled team.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Chef within food services
  • Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to evolving practices

Desirable

  • Experience in café or restaurant environments
  • Leadership experience managing food service teams
