About Us
Ngamai Wilam is a 12-bed residential eating disorder treatment facility in Armadale, set to open in May 2025. Jointly funded by the Australian Federal Government and the Victorian Government, this specialist service is managed by Alfred Health.
Ngamai Wilam provides 24/7 trauma-informed, recovery-focused care in a gender-inclusive, home-like therapeutic environment. With a strong emphasis on family and chosen supports, the service is dedicated to long-term recovery and person-centred care.
As part of AMAH Statewide Services, alongside WREN (Women’s Recovery Network), Ngamai Wilam is at the forefront of innovative mental health care, integrating Open Dialogue principles to promote collaborative and holistic recovery.
About the Role
As the Eating Disorders Educator, you will play a pivotal role in shaping workforce capability and advancing specialist eating disorder care. This role is ideal for an experienced clinician or lived experience professional who is passionate about education, mentoring, and workforce development in the eating disorder field.
In this role, you will:
Provide education, training, and mentoring to clinical and lived experience staff, embedding best-practice eating disorder care across the team.
Develop and implement workforce development strategies, ensuring staff are equipped to provide evidence-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-focused care.
Use your extensive experience working with individuals with eating disorders to guide service development and promote a strong therapeutic culture.
Work in collaboration with senior leaders, researchers, and sector experts to establish Ngamai Wilam as a centre of excellence in eating disorder care.
Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, providing clinical and reflective supervision to support ongoing professional growth.
About You
Extensive experience working with people experiencing eating disorders in a clinical or lived experience capacity.
A strong commitment to person-centred, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented care.
Demonstrated ability to mentor, educate, and develop staff, promoting best-practice approaches to eating disorder treatment.
Proven leadership in service development, clinical training, or lived experience workforce education.
A thorough understanding of the Victorian Mental Health & Wellbeing Act (2022) and other relevant legislation.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with participants, families, and the broader care network.
Qualifications & Eligibility
For Clinicians:
Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse or Occupational Therapist, OR
Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (for Social Workers), OR
Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) status or willingness to regain APD status (at own expense).
For Lived Experience Professionals:
Demonstrated expertise in using personal experience of eating disorders and recovery to inform service development, workforce education, and peer support.
Highly Regarded:
Postgraduate qualifications in mental health, education, or a related field.
Experience working in specialist eating disorder services, including hospital, residential, or community-based settings.
