About the Department  and Pharmacy Operations Team 

The Pharmacy services operate across all Alfred Care Group sites and are well recognised nationally and internationally for high quality, innovative, patient-focused services, education and training programmes as well as significant research output.  

 

The Pharmacy Operations team comprises both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and plays a vital role in the delivery of core pharmacy services to both inpatients and outpatients across Alfred Care Group. There are 5 dispensaries located across the group, including an inpatient and outpatient dispensary at Alfred Hospital and a dispensary each at Caulfield Hospital, Sandringham Hospital and Melbourne Sexual Health Centre. The team also runs an aseptic suite and the Clinical Trials service for Alfred Care Group. 

 About the Role  

Pharmacy Technicians play a vital role in medication delivery at Alfred Care Group to ensure patients' medications are available in a safe and timely manner. 

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will:

  • Support the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to patients across Alfred Care Group including inpatient medication supply, discharge preparation and outpatient services
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals to support optimal patient care
  • Assist with aseptic compounding where applicable (e.g. IV preparations, cytotoxic medications)
  • Ensure compliance with medication safety standards, policies, and procedures
  • Use pharmacy information systems and electronic medication management systems effectively
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation activities
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and patient-focused pharmacy team environment 

To succeed in this role, you will be:

  • Able to identify opportunities for improvement and demonstrate initiative 

Qualifications & Experience required  

  • Previous Pharmacy experience in a hospital or community pharmacy or equivalent desirable (essential for Grade 2 or higher) 
  • Experience with i.Pharmacy dispensing software an advantage but not essential
  • Experience in an aseptic and cytotoxic manufacturing suite desirable
  • Knowledge of PBS, S100, and Special Access schemes an advantage
  • For recognition at Grade 2 TH6: 
    • Certificate III in Health - Hospital Pharmacy Technician (awarded by a registered training organization or equivalent qualification - As approved by pharmacy board of Australia or equivalent body) 
  • For recognition at Grade 3 TH10:  
    • Completion of or progression towards Certificate IV in Health - Hospital Pharmacy Technician or equivalent qualification
