Senior Pharmacist – Alfred Mental and Addiction Health 

  • Full-time, ongoing – 80 hours per fortnight, with monthly ADOs

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist with expertise in Psychotropic medication management, and an excellent understanding of clinical practice approaches to supporting patients with complex mental health issues and/or training and experience working in mental health settings.

ALFRED MENTAL & ADDICTION HEALTH

Alfred Mental & Addiction Health (AMAH) provides specialist care for people suffering from mental illnesses, and addiction disorders. The Program has primary responsibility for residents of inner South Eastern metropolitan Melbourne, but cares for all patients seeking its services. The single most important goal of AMAH is to create an environment that facilitates clinical recovery, supports individual recovery efforts and strives to minimise service system barriers to the recovery process.

You will work collaboratively with our existing AMAH Senior Pharmacists, Lead Pharmacist and the multidisciplinary team to achieve the best medication outcomes for patients, and provide support and contribute to the overall Pharmacy Service for AMAH.

Services are provided by different teams located at the Alfred Hospital (Commercial Road, Prahran) and at St. Kilda Road Clinic, Alma Road CCU in St. Kilda, Prevention and Recovery care (PARC) based in South Yarra, the Women’s Recovery Network (WReN) at Albert Rd Clinic, the Child & Adolescent service located in Moorabbin, Aged Mental Health based at Caulfield Hospital and headspace services in various locations in Victoria.

PHARMACY DEPARTMENT

The Pharmacy Department works closely with patients, their family and other health services to provide excellent service in the area of medication. Our departments' priorities are to provide information on medication safety, cost-effective use of medication for patients and deliver specialised pharmacy expertise at important points of a patient's recovery or treatment process. The Pharmacy Department at Alfred Health provides a dynamic and innovative clinical pharmacy service to ensure Alfred Health patients receive the best pharmacy care possible. The pharmacy service to AMAH is extensive and includes several pharmacist-led initiatives and programs.

POSITION SUMMARY

Working closely with the Lead Pharmacist AMAH, the post holder will provide progressive advanced level patient-centred care. The Senior Pharmacist – AMAH will lead clinical services, and new or emerging initiatives; support the broader AMAH program; and be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of clinical pharmacy services, secondary consultation, education as well as contribution to medication safety and quality and oversight of pharmacy related matters. This includes the supervision and development of Clinical Pharmacists, trainees and students. Research is an essential part of pharmacy services at Alfred Health. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the research and educational activities of the AMAH program as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Registered pharmacist with AHPRA.
  • Relevant clinical post-graduate qualification such as Masters in Clinical Pharmacy Practice or equivalent.
  • Completion of a specialist qualification, or completion or progression towards a PhD in a relevant area of study highly desirable.
  • Recognition as an ANZCAP registrar or consultant, or equivalent, in the specialty of Mental Health highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience in the provision of an advanced clinical pharmacy service in Mental Health and Addictions, and demonstrated understanding of contemporary practice in hospital clinical pharmacy services, quality use of medicines and therapeutics.
