Alfred Health Occupational Therapy Services operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals, with clinical services aligned to Alfred Health's strategic goals and operational performance targets. The Position

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and skilled Occupational Therapist to provide high quality assessment and intervention to acute inpatients within the Medical Specialties Stream. The successful applicant for this Grade 2 Occupational Therapy position will apply their knowledge, skill and expertise to deliver excellent clinical service to a varied  and complex diagnostic group to patients in the acute phases of care, includnig heart/lung transplant, respiratory, infectious diseases, oncology/haematology and cardiac conditions. Occupational Therapy service provision will primarily be in the areas of cognitive assessment in cardiac conditions, palliative care discharges, assessment of impact of comorbidities on occupational performance and early progression of care to promote pathways out of hospital and into community settings. 

At a Grade 2 level, Occupational Therapists are required to display autonomy of practice, whilst also contributing collaboratively to the multi-disciplinary team. There will also be opportunities for Grade 2 clinicians to be involved in various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service, and will be responsible for the supervision and mentoring of junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or undergraduate students.


At Alfred Health, the Occupational Therapy service delivers a seven-day model of care and the incumbent in this role may be required to assist with weekend service provision on a periodic basis.


Skills and Experience Required

  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in occupational therapy
  • Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, and eligibility for OTA membership
  • Clinical experience and knowledge of client-centred, occupational service delivery in a subacute setting
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and modify service delivery in accordance with evidence-based practice
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary team to provide high-quality rehabilitation
  • Experience in supervision of junior staff and students is highly desirable
