The Department

The Procurement, Property and Supply Chain Department is the principal procurement, warehousing and distribution centre for Bayside Health Alfred Care Group.

Procurement supports the Health Service in the pursuit of its strategic goals by providing an effective and efficient service. Procurement is responsible for governance and compliance across all procurement activities within the Health Service with a focus on managing costs and risks in line with three (3) overarching objectives as follows:

  • Value for money
  • Quality services; and
  • Alignment with business needs.

The department also has oversight of commercial tenancy arrangements including numerous of retail precincts within the hospital campus.

The Role

The Category Manager – Generalist will be responsible for the end‑to‑end strategic management of a diverse procurement portfolio spanning clinical (direct) and non‑clinical (indirect) categories. This includes, but is not limited to, clinical consumables and services, construction and facilities, support services, and information technology.

Operating in a complex care environment, the role partners closely with clinical, corporate, and operational stakeholders to deliver value for money, risk-managed supply, regulatory compliance, and high-quality outcomes that support Alfred Care Group’s mission of delivering safe, compassionate, and sustainable care.

Key areas of responsibilities include:

  • Category & Strategic Sourcing
  • Stakeholder & Clinical Engagement
  • Contract & Supplier Management
  • Financial, Risk & Compliance Management

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Proven working experience in a senior sourcing or procurement role.
  • Familiarity with strategic sourcing and category management methods.
  • Subject matter expertise across diverse procurement portfolio spanning clinical (direct) and non‑clinical (indirect) categories.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills to build strong, trusted relationships with clinical leaders, care service managers, facilities, IT, finance, and executive stakeholders.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
