The Department
Alfred Health provides acute clinical care to patients on the acute wards and the Allied Health team includes both Allied Health Practitioners and Allied Health Assistants. Alfred Health’s Allied Health comprises a number of Allied Health disciplines that provide patient-centred care across all clinical programs that operate at Alfred Health. The Allied Health team includes clinicians from Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Speech Pathology, Social Work, Nutrition and Psychology (including Neuropsychology) and are supported by Allied Health Assistants. The Allied Health team works closely with the Nursing and Medical teams to provide a comprehensive and timely service to both inpatients and outpatients.
The Position Summary
The Allied Health Assistant works closely with the multidisciplinary allied health team to provide a flexible and responsive service that works to meet each patient’s identified therapeutic and discharge goals. The position is responsible for the implementation of individual interventions and/or therapy programs, as delegated by the treating therapists. The AHA will work as part of the multidisciplinary team OR individual disciplines to provide services that may include sourcing practical advice and providing support to patients and families to complete applications for services and benefits. The AHA will also be responsible for administrative and clinical support functions, which assist with patient management and contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the ward. It is a condition of employment that individuals may be required to work across all Alfred Health sites and services, including weekend and Public Holiday shifts as rostered. While these roles will be mostly based at the Alfred, cover at our Sandringham and Caulfield sites may be needed.
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Completion of Certificate IV (Allied Health Assistance) from a registered training organisation, OR
- Recognised equivalent qualification (as determined by the line manager), OR
- Higher qualification in a relevant allied health discipline at Diploma or Associate Diploma level, OR
- Certificate level qualification in a relevant health-related field, OR
- Overseas-trained Allied Health practitioner with a qualification at Diploma level or higher, OR
- Allied Health undergraduate student (in a relevant health science discipline) having successfully completed at least 1 year
