Alfred Health

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.

Alfred Mental and Addiction Health (AMAH) is seeking hospital medical officers (HMOs) who will be post-graduate year 3 or beyond in 2025, who are interested in broadening their experience and knowledge of psychiatry.

AMAH HMOs will enjoy working in a service which greatly values junior medical staff wellbeing and has a strong focus on supporting our junior doctors. A diverse range of clinical placements within a recovery-focused service with a strong emphasis on collaborative care and proactive engagement of families and carers, supported by experienced supervisors, ensures Alfred Health doctors are able to optimise their learning opportunities and a structured teaching programme, including formal weekly tutorials and clinical interview tutorials are available to all HMOs. AMAH has, and will continue to support HMOs seeking to apply for RANZCP registrar positions.

AMAH values an active and engaged psychiatry registrar body with the present group of approximately 50 registrars engaged in fellowship training, including those training in a number of subspecialty certificates in adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation and liaison psychiatry, aged psychiatry, addiction psychiatry and generalist advanced training. HMOs can expect to be mentored and supported by this large, enthusiastic and dynamic group of psychiatry trainees.

AMAH HMOs and registrars have access to a peer support program which includes regular meetings with senior psychiatry registrars and monthly meetings with a focus on trainee wellbeing which includes all of the junior psychiatry medical staff.

Psychiatry HMOs can expect to gain experience working across a variety of inpatient and community psychiatry settings.

For further enquiries please contact Dr Leo Chen (Director Psychiatry Registrar Training and Workforce) at [email protected] or Laurina Van Tilburg at [email protected]

Please include a cover letter and CV as part of your application.
