About us

The Alfred hospital Intensive Care Unit is one of Australia's leading Intensive Care Units, admitting approximately 3000 patients per annum. It is a state of the art 45 bed ICU employing in excess of 450 nursing and medical staff. It is a university attached quaternary referral centre, providing State Services for heart & lung transplantation (including paediatric lung transplantation), artificial heart technology, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), burns and hyperbaric medicine. It also provides Victoria's Adult Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Hypertension services.

About the role

The primary role of the DSNC is to facilitate all aspects of organ and tissue donation. Implementation of best practices in organ and tissue donation, the provision and support of education strategies and understanding the Donate Life death audit.

About you

Essential

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Nursing Division 1 (General)
  • Post graduate qualifications in critical care or other relevant specialty
  • Extensive experience in senior nursing (leadership) position within a hospital setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and identify, assess and resolve problems and   create outcomes
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced negotiation skills and ability to communicate appropriately in time critical circumstances
  • Ability to communicate empathically with bereaved families
  • Ability to lead stakeholders to a shared goal
  • Intermediate level computer skills
  • Able to contribute to a 24/7 on call rotation roster

Desirable

  • Previous organ donation exposure
  • Proven change management experience
  • Highly developed written and oral presentation skills
  • Demonstrated insight into impact of own biases, feelings and behaviours
  • Illustrated for continued professional development
  • Previous experience in guideline/protocol development
