The Department
The Alfred Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit allied health team is comprised of dedicated and compassionate mental health clinicians and lived experience workers. The Role
In this role, you will be working as part of our Acute multidisciplinary team. Candidates should demonstrate and address the psychosocial determinants and impact of mental illness and hospitalisation for patients and their families. Social Work practice aims to facilitate the improvement of mental health and the quality of life of consumers, support to secure resources and strengthen the prospects of the person’s recovery. The ideal is to provide an effective transition from hospital to the community.
Social Workers seek to achieve this through principles of social justice and the social determinants of health and wellbeing to enhance individual recovery. This occurs through consultation, assessment, and emphasis on specialist support, an advisory and advocacy role with the consumer, carers/families and broader supports in the community. The candidate will work within the multi-disciplinary team and will be accountable for the provision of effective Mental Health Social Work practice and services to consumers, carers and the community, using individual and group evidence-based practice. Building on partnerships between mental health services and the community by networking and liaison with carers/families and community services will be a necessary and significant part of the role.
Requirements for the role
- Eligibility for membership of Australian Association of Social Workers
- Bachelor or Masters degree in Social Work
- Relevant clinical experience with experience in social work within a mental health-based context
- Relevant post graduate training in mental health (desirable)
- Current Working with Children Check and be willing to undergo a Background Check
- Australian working rights
