The Department

Alfred Health Allied Health comprises a number of Allied Health disciplines who provide patient centred care across all clinical programs that operate at Alfred Health. The Allied Health team includes clinicians from Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Speech Pathology, Social Work, Nutrition and Psychology (including Page 2 of 6 Neuropsychology) and are supported by Allied Health Assistants. The Allied Health team works closely with the Nursing and Medical teams to provide a comprehensive and timely service to both in patients and outpatients.

About the Role

  • The Grade 1 Allied Health Assistant (AHA) works closely with the multidisciplinary Allied Health team to provide a flexible and responsive service that works to meet each patient’s identified therapeutic and discharge goals.
  • The position is responsible for the implementation of basic individual interventions and/or therapy programs, as delegated by, and under the direct supervision of the treating Allied Health Professionals (AHPs). The AHA will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide services that include provision of delegated therapies, provision of appropriate equipment and aids as prescribed by AHPs, assistance with paperwork and referrals to facilitate discharge, and liaison with external providers to obtain information to progress care or facilitate discharge.
  • The AHA will also be responsible for administrative and clinical support functions, which assist with patient management and contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the team
  • The Grade 1 Allied Health Assistant is expected to actively contribute to an assigned department portfolio and regular supervision with a relevant supervisor.
  • The position may involve working across any clinical area at any Alfred Health sites and is expected to contribute to the weekend and public holiday service when required.

About you

  • A commitment to study or currently studying the Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (HLT33021) or Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (HLT43021) from a registered training organisation, OR
  • Studying recognised equivalent qualification (as determined by the line manager).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Demonstration of effective teamwork.
  • Patient centred approach to care provision.
  • Flexible and adaptive to demands of the working environment, willing to work within and across teams.
  • An ability to recognise and report risk with sound judgement.
