Alfred Care Group is seeking an experienced and motivated pharmacist to join the General Medicine Pharmacy Service as Lead Pharmacist. This is a unique opportunity to lead one of the most progressive hospital pharmacy services in the country and continue to build and develop the general medicine pharmacy team. 

About the Department & Team 

The General Medicine Unit is a major provider of clinical care and education at Alfred Health. It is a dynamic, well supported unit with focuses on education, research and community-based care.. The unit is dedicated to the care of complex, multi-morbid and often elderly patients, providing care in line with patient values and preferences.. There is a strong interdisciplinary approach to care within the unit. The General Medicine Unit also includes services at Sandringham Hospital and Hospital in the Home. The pharmacy service to General Medicine is extensive and includes several pharmacist-led initiatives and an extended hours service.

The Pharmacy Department works closely with patients, their family and other health services to provide high level pharmaceutical care. Our departments' priorities are to provide information on medication safety, cost-effective use of medication for patients and deliver specialised pharmacy expertise at important points of a patient's recovery or treatment process. Our pharmacists are recognised as essential members of all clinical teams, actively engaging in a unit and team-based care model involving ward rounds and collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve excellent patient care outcomes. About the Role 

As Lead Pharmacist - General Medicine you will provide progressive and advanced level patient-centred care across the General Medicine Unit. You will work closely with the Director for Pharmacy Clinical Innovations and will be responsible for the delivery and development of clinical pharmacy services to General Medicine patients across the Alfred Health. 

You will play a key role in the managing and mentoring of Senior Pharmacists in the General Medicine service. This will also include co-ordinating and ensure quality rotations for junior Pharmacists, including Foundation Residents, Advanced Residents, undergraduate students, intern rotations and postgraduate student placements. This includes leading credentialing programs for both Alfred Health and national/international visitors for courses such as Partnered Pharmacist Medication Charting, pharmacist-led warfarin dosing and pharmacist MET call credentialing. 

You will contribute to the General Medicine Leadership team, including collaborating with medical, nursing, allied health and pharmacy colleagues.  

Research is an essential part of pharmacy services at Alfred Health; in this position you will also lead and develop research and educational activities of the General Medicine teams and Pharmacy Department.

Qualifications & Experience required

  • Registered pharmacist in Australia
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent highly desirable
  • Extensive hospital pharmacy experience in a senior leadership position, with a demonstrated understanding of contemporary practice in hospital pharmacy services
  • Experience in leading and coaching highly effective team
