Alfred Mental & Addiction Health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a mental illness residing in the Inner Southeastern area of Melbourne.

The Adult In-Patient team is comprised of dedicated and compassionate nursing, allied health, lived experience and medical staff. We celebrate diversity within our workforce with a genuine interest in each other’s wellbeing. Our team is committed to delivering a timely and effective range of treatments and interventions for the treatment of acute, severe mental health issues. We aim for treatment and intervention to be personal, safe, connected and effective. Our treating team will work together to provide the best practice treatment for mental and physical health, to assist recovery.  We value higher learning and support our team with frequent professional development opportunities and regular professional supervision.

The role

In this role, you will be expected to provide a client centred art therapy program that enhances the wellbeing and recovery of patients admitted to the acute in-patient units. Participation in the establishment of the therapeutic group program is a key role.

The Acute Service is one component of a comprehensive adult psychiatric service at The Alfred. AMAH has a multidisciplinary approach to care of individuals diagnosed with, or at risk of developing a serious mental illness. Music and Art therapists in AMAH are well supported professionally with access to professional development, supervision and performance management structures.

Shifts will be allocated on a roster system, and as such you may be required to work weekends.

Skills and Experience

You will have good interpersonal skills and attention to detail.

  • Relevant qualifications in Art Therapy, and eligible for registration with registering body.
  • Experience in development and implementation of group programs.
  • Demonstrated skills in principles and practice of Art Therapy for people with serious mental illness, undertaking assessment, development and implementation of individual treatment and management plans in consultation with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Australian working rights and current Influenza vaccination
