We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department
Alfred Health is the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne and is also a major provider of specialist services to people across Victoria. The health service operates four outstanding facilities, The Alfred, Caulfield,Sandringham and Melbourne sexual health centre.
The Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a recreation officer to work within the Acquired Brain Injury inpatient rehabilitation team. The inpatient rehabilitation unit has a focus on working towards person-centred goals in order to maximise participation, quality of life, and independence for people over the age of 18 years with an ABI. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and skilled Lifestyle Assistant to provide opportunities to maximise participation for patients within the inpatient rehabilitation service.
Alfred Health's Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Rehabilitation Unit provides rehabilitation services for people with moderate to severe acquired brain injuries including traumatic brain injuries, stroke, hypoxic brain injuries and other causes of non-progressive brain injury.
The Lifestyle assistant is responsible for:
- Activity planning: Developing and implementing leisure/lifestyle programs that are tailored to patient’s interests, abilities and preferences
- Providing therapy for patients using recreation and leisure as a treatment modality
- Facilitating group and 1:1 activity programs that are focused on patients’ areas of interest and preference
Qualifications Required
- Certificate level qualifications in recreation, diversional therapy or leisure (e.g., Certificate IV in Leisure and Health) OR;
- Bachelor degree with a major in recreation/leisure, OR;
- Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance
