The Department

The Amputee Rehabilitation Service provides inpatient and outpatient services to the clients of Alfred Health and is located at Caulfield Hospital (CH). The Amputee Rehabilitation Service is a specialised service providing clinical assessment and evaluation for a wide range of clients with limb loss and deficiency, leading to the custom prescription, design and manufacture of prostheses as well as amputee rehabilitation Services offered include Prosthetics, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Medical and are provided to clients of the Victorian Artificial Limb Program (VALP), Veterans Affairs, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and other compensable clients.  

The Role

The Caulfield Prosthetic department is a leading healthcare provider committed to delivering exceptional patient care and education. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Grade 1 Prosthetist to join our dynamic team. As a Grade 1 Prosthetist, you will play a crucial role in providing prosthetic care to interim and definitive patients, whilst working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of clinical practice and patient satisfaction. As the Alfred Hospital is the largest trauma hospital in Victoria exposure to both the acute post amputation setting and the prosthetic rehabilitation environment is on offer. Furthermore, exposure to amputee clinics with rehabilitation consultants is expected. As a Grade 1 Prosthetist strong clinical report writing skills are required for NDIS patients.  

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics
  • Membership of the Australian Orthotic Prosthetic Association
  • NDIS worker screening check 
  • Possess a sound knowledge of prosthetic and/or orthotic components, biomechanics, pathologies and clinical practices 
  • Understanding of the public health system and areas of funding 
  • Understand the relationship between quality control, efficiency and funding implications
  • Understand, implement and manage quality assurance procedures concerning the manufacture of prosthetic/orthotic devices
