About us
The Multidisciplinary Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc), is part of Alfred Brain, Alfred Health Monash University Department of Psychiatry Central, and conducts clinical research projects with a focus on translation into clinical practice and the development of new treatments for people with serious mental illness. MAPrc has approximately 65 staff and post graduate students and is based at The Alfred Hospital, Prahran. The Centre has more than 30 active trials and research projects in a range of domains including women’s mental health, brain stimulation and neuroimaging, neuropsychology, addiction psychiatry, psychopharmacology, service evaluation and service delivery research and health outcomes research. The Department is active in undergraduate medical student teaching, HDR student supervision, delivery of short courses and research into mental health teaching. The majority of MAPrc research grants, publications and academic activities are through this Department. Professor Jayashri Kulkarni is the Head of Department and Director of MAPrc.
About the role
This position will primarily coordinate a range of clinical trials currently being conducted within MAPrc. The position reports to the Clinical Trials Team Manager. This role is based at 607 St Kilda Road although may require some travel to other sites and partnering with community services. The primary purpose of this position is recruitment of participants for current clinical treatment trials investigating the effectiveness of new treatments for serious mental illnesses including depression, schizophrenia and complex trauma disorder (also known as borderline personality disorder). The position will also be responsible for coordination of one or more clinical trials, including management of participants through the clinical trial process. Activities to be performed will include: Liaising with the clinical trials team to schedule in-person and online visits with potential and actual participants in a range of clinical treatment trials being conducted at MAPrc, Being involved in promoting/advertising the trials to potential participants; recruitment and assessment of suitable participants; collection of clinical and cognitive assessment data; collation of source data and assistance with data entry into an electronic case report form (eCRF), resolution of data queries; liaison with trial sponsors and CRO’s; and assistance with ethics submissions. The position will also assist with the preparation of trial and funder reports, and will contribute to other activities of the research Centre as required and appropriate to the qualifications and experience of the incumbent. The position will be an integral part of the MAPrc clinical trials team
About you
- A degree in a relevant health science field, from a recognised university with subsequent relevant work experience in mental health, nursing or other allied health discipline;
- Demonstrated experience in subject recruitment with proven ability to establish rapport with patients
- Clinical trials experience including experience in subject recruitment and retention
- Sound knowledge of ICH-GCP guidelines
- Ability to establish rapport with patients, health practitioners and colleagues
- Demonstrate ability to communicate and work with external industry sponsors and research monitors
- Experience with conducting industry sponsored and /or PI led Clinical Trials
