Alfred Health

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.

We are offering a Paediatric Registrar position at Alfred Health. Alfred Health participates in the Victorian Paediatric Rural Advanced Training (VPRAT) centralised match for advanced trainees in Paediatrics in Victoria. Our training position will be appointed through the VPRAT match and applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners.

Sandringham Hospital is a member of Alfred Health and a teaching hospital for Monash University. Monash Maternity and Newborn Sandringham provide obstetric and neonatal services within the hospital which is governed by Monash Health).

The hospital provides a Level 3 Special Care Nursery to support the Obstetric Service provided by Monash Maternity (up to 1500 obstetric deliveries per year) and provide care for premature babies transferred from Level 4-5 nurseries. Alfred CYMHS (Child and Youth Mental Health Service) is also part of Alfred Health. The Paediatric Unit is supported by six VMO Paediatricians.

Sandringham Hospital is currently recruiting for 2025 one advanced paediatric trainee for a position accredited with the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Physicians as elective training.  If the 12 month full time position is completed, this satisfies 12 months non-core general paediatrics.

The position duties include management of level three neonates and maternity ward neonates, attendance at emergency deliveries and outpatient clinics. Outpatient clinics include two general paediatric outpatient clinics per week, and two clinics at Alfred CYMHS (one involving multidisciplinary developmental assessment and the other adolescent medical review for young people with eating disorders or mental health disorders in the context of intellectual disability). Quality assurance, audit activities and a strong focus on education and training of junior staff are also important components of the role.  There are no on call or after-hours requirements.
