The Department

The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Health delivers a comprehensive suite of services which involves a range of diagnostic services, surgical, radiation and oncology therapies. This now includes the Integrative Oncology Unit and Wellness Centre, established in 2024 to provide evidence-based supportive care for cancer patients.

An exceptional opportunity exists for a motivated and skilled Physiotherapist to join the Integrative Oncology Unit within the Alfred Cancer Program. Now in its second year of operation, the Integrative Oncology Unit is located within the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre (PFMCC)—a purpose-built, multidisciplinary centre designed to provide world-class, patient-centred care. The Unit delivers evidence-based therapies that sit alongside traditional oncology treatments, empowering patients and families to optimise health, wellbeing, and quality of life throughout their cancer journey.

The Role

An exciting new opportunity exists for an experienced and motivated physiotherapist to join Alfred Health as the Grade 3 Senior Clinician Physiotherapist (Integrative Oncology). This new leadership position will play a key role in building and delivering a contemporary, evidence-based exercise oncology program within Alfred Cancer’s outpatient setting. Working within a multidisciplinary team consisting of nursing, allied health and complementary practitioners, the Grade 3 Physiotherapist provides specialised care, supports other staff and leads clinical practice in alignment with national guidelines that position exercise as a core component of cancer care, integrating best practice into every stage of the cancer journey.

As a senior member of the multidisciplinary Integrative Oncology Unit, you will lead innovative physiotherapy practice, contribute to program design and evaluation, and provide high-quality care to people living with and beyond cancer. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine advanced clinical practice with leadership in service development, education, quality improvement and research, shaping the future of supportive cancer care at Alfred Health.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver expert, evidence-based physiotherapy assessment and management for oncology and haematology outpatients in an outpatient setting.
  • Lead the collaborative development, delivery and evaluation of a cancer-specific exercise program, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to implement a safe, high-quality, accessible and sustainable service.
  • Provision of 1:1 and group interventions in person and via telehealth.
  • Contribute to the design and facilitation of interdisciplinary group programs that focus on health and wellbeing to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Provide clinical leadership, mentoring and supervision to other staff within the Integrative Oncology team, including exercise physiologists and complementary practitioners.
  • Champion evidence-based practice and innovation in exercise oncology service delivery.
  • Lead and participate in quality improvement, research and program evaluation initiatives that contribute to the field of supportive care and integrative oncology.
  • Foster strong communication and teamwork across disciplines and teams within Alfred Cancer to ensure integrated, patient-centred care.
  • Promote education and knowledge-sharing within Alfred Cancer and the wider physiotherapy department.

About You

You are a passionate and skilled physiotherapist with a strong clinical background in oncology and supportive cancer care. You bring proven leadership, initiative, and a commitment to advancing person-centred care in cancer treatment and recovery. With exceptional communication skills, you foster strong professional and therapeutic relationships and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Physiotherapist
  • At least seven (7) years’ experience, including advanced clinical skills relevant to oncology/haematology
  • Proven ability to lead, supervise and develop staff in a clinical environment Experience in service development, quality improvement and/or clinical research
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and organisational skills
  • A strong commitment to evidence-based practice, innovation and continuous learning
  • Postgraduate qualification (completed or in progress) in a relevant field will be highly regarded
