Alfred Health

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.

This 12 month position is in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at The Alfred, commencing February 2025.  The position is designed for applicants who would like additional experience or training in adult cardiac surgery, adult cardiac transplantation, adult and paediatric lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.

The position is suited for applicants who have completed their training in cardiothoracic surgery (although they may not necessarily have sat their examination for specialist registration).
Applications are encouraged from suitably qualified and trained doctors.

The position will expose the successful candidate to a broad range of general Cardiothoracic Surgical procedures, which includes >700 cardiac cases and >400 thoracic cases per year. The Unit also has a very busy transplant program, performing 20-30 heart transplants and over 100 lung transplants per year and is the National Paediatric lung transplant program.

Our mechanical circulatory support program uses a variety of different devices, performing approximately 20 - 30 VAD implants per year as well as supporting a busy ECMO service.   The Alfred provides national service for pulmonary endarterectomy.  The successful applicant will be involved in all of these unit activities as well as the unit teaching program and will be expected to take part in unit research activities.

Candidates are advised that applications are reviewed as they are received and the department and hospital may finalise an appointment prior to the closing if appropriate, therefore, please lodge your application as soon as possible. '

Applications Close: 18th July 2024

Alfred Health is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce that reflects the community we serve.  Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged.

All Alfred Health employees are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and Influenza with a TGA approved vaccine and must provide evidence of their vaccination status. This is in accordance with the Victorian Minister of Health’s Mandatory Vaccination Orders for COVID-19 and legislated requirement for influenza vaccination.
