The Occupational Therapy Department at Alfred Health
Alfred Health - Occupational Therapy Services operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals, with clinical services aligned to Alfred Health strategic goals and operational performance targets. The Victorian Adult Burns Service
The Victorian Adult Burns Service (VABS) at The Alfred hospital is the state-wide provider of burns care for all adults with complex major burn injuries in Victoria, as well as many people with less severe burns. Each year we admit over 300 burns patients and review over 1000 outpatients.
The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for experienced an occupational therapist to join the Alfred Health Occupational Therapy (OT) Plastics/Burns as a senior clinician. The person in this role will bring a high level of clinical expertise to support patients across a range of Alfred Health outpatient clinics including, Plastics and Burns clinics. They will apply this knowledge, skill, and expertise to provide high quality clinical service provision and to lead and develop the clinical practice of individuals and/or teams.
An important part of this senior role is that the occupational therapy clinician will have the opportunity to lead various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service, Allied Health directorate, and clinical program, and will represent Allied Health on allocated committees. In addition, they will be responsible for the supervision and mentoring of junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or occupational therapy students.
It is a requirement of all Alfred Health staff that they may be required to work across all Alfred Health site (The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital) including weekends and public holidays, based on clinical service demands.
Qualifications Required:
- Occupational Therapy Qualification
- Post graduate Qualification (Masters or PhD level): Clinical or Management (or working towards same).
- Current full registration held with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA) or equivalent.
- Member of OT Australia (or eligibility for membership) or equivalent.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum seven years’ clinical experience in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
- Highly developed clinical skills relevant to burns practice, including scar management, splinting and positioning, upper limb therapy, oedema management, cognitive assessment and intervention or pain management.
- Well-developed leadership skills, including the ability to undertake professional supervision and promote professional competence of other staff.
- Demonstrated capacity to inspire, influence, mentor and motivate staff and students, contributing to a positive organisational culture.
Desirable
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in the area of Burns practice.
