The Department
The Malignant Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation Service and the Haemostasis / Thrombosis Unit, and the Haemophilia Centre, support haematology patients from the greater Melbourne area, and adult haemophilia patients from all of Victoria. The Clinical Research Unit oversees a large number of clinical trials for these diverse patient groups from Phase 1, first-in-humans to Phase 3 randomised, controlled trials, testing newly developed drugs straight from the biotech companies, to established drugs used in new regimens. A Collaborative Group called the Australasian Myeloma Research Consortium (AMaRC) is run from our unit. It promotes, facilitates and sponsors Investigator Initiated Trials and collaborative laboratory research projects in myeloma, acting as Trial Centre supporting the participating sites in Australasia.
The Role
- Trial coordination of given clinical trials within the framework of Good Clinical Practice:
- Support recruitment of participants
- Support and organise patients as participants
- Organise patients’ investigations and treatments
- Educate patients and families about trials and about patient safety
- Collaborate across the spectrum of health services for all aspects of trial treatment and participation
- Collect and report accurate data
- Provide cover and support for other Clinical Trials studies and team members as needed
- Provide support and education to other nursing teams involved in care of trial patients
Skills and Qualifications Required
Essential
- Relevant health related tertiary qualification or current Division 1 registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
Desirable
- Experience in Haematology or Medical Oncology
- Knowledge of Haemophilia Experience in clinical trials GCP certification
