About us

The Alfred Hospital’s Department of Infectious Diseases is one of Australia’s largest and most advanced centres for infectious disease care, research and education. It provides specialist expertise across general infections, HIV, hospital‑acquired infections, antimicrobial resistance, travel medicine, viral hepatitis, STIs and infections in immunocompromised patients. Clinical services include dedicated units for general infectious diseases, HIV care, consultative support and immunocompromised hosts, alongside a leading training program.

A flagship component is the Victorian State‑wide HIV Service, offering comprehensive multidisciplinary care for people living with HIV, including management of complications and co‑morbidities. The Department sits within the Alfred Medical Research Precinct and, through Monash Partners, is recognised as an NHMRC Academic Health Science Centre.

About the role

This is an entry-level position and an opportunity to build epidemiology and applied statistics skills while taking responsibility for the routine, recurring data work that underpins the Department’s research and clinical activity. Working within the EDMS team and alongside the research stream, the Research Data and Analytics Officer will help maintain clinical research databases, deliver regular data submissions, extracts and reports reliably and on time, and carry out applied statistical analysis on clinical and epidemiological datasets under the supervision of the team’s analysts. With support from the Data Analysts and the Manager EDMS, you will develop your analytical capability in R, contribute to research outputs and publications, and grow towards more advanced methods and independent analytical work over time. You will also support the Victorian HIV Service and other Departmental programs on quality projects that integrate data with clinical care. 

About you

• Bachelor’s degree (or working towards one) in Statistics, Data Science, Biomedical Science, Public Health, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent relevant experience
• Working ability in a statistical language (preferably R) and sound general data literacy, with confidence handling data carefully and accurately
• A grounding in statistical methods and a genuine interest in applying them to epidemiological and clinical data, with willingness to learn new tools and techniques on the job
• Demonstrated reliability in delivering routine, recurring tasks accurately and to deadline 
• Experience with REDCap, and/or exposure to regression, survival analysis or other applied statistical methods
• Experience contributing to a publication or manuscript submission
• Exposure to scripting or data workflow tools, for example SQL, Power Automate or Power BI
• Postgraduate coursework or a Diploma in Biostatistics, Data Science or Public Health
