The Department
Respiratory Medicine has a unique and comprehensive spectrum of expertise in Australia across clinical and basic allergy and advanced adult lung diseases, including severe asthma, emphysema, interstitial lung diseases, sleep apnoea, cystic fibrosis (CF; State Centre of Excellence) and lung transplantation. It comprises of four Clinical Services, supported by the Bronchoscopy Service and the Physiology Service (including the Lung Function Laboratory)
The Roles
The Research Nurse (COPD and PHT) is a part time position to support clinical research undertaken by the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Service and Pulmonary Hypertension (PHT) Service. The Research Nurse (COPD and PHT) will work closely with the Respiratory Medicine consultants and clinic nurses involved in clinical patient management to facilitate trials.
The Research Nurse (COPD and PHT) is to assist with the coordination and running of various investigator-initiated research projects and clinical trials being conducted by the Alfred COPD and PHT clinical teams. The Research Nurse will ensure the recruitment and retention of research participants as well as excellent data collection and management in accordance with Good Clinical Research Practice Standards and adherence to clinical trial protocols.
The Research Nurse will also liaise with the relevant Principal Investigator and Sub investigators, facilitating the submission of Health Human Research Ethics Committee Ethics (HREC) and Governance Submissions, budgets and progress reports. The Research Nurse will also liaise as necessary with the CRO Monitors and other relevant staff as required for the studies they are involved in.
The Research Nurse (COPD and PHT) is responsible for the recruitment, scheduling, assessment and monitoring of participants enrolled in sponsored and investigator initiated clinical trials and research studies, at the same time using a range of administration, research, and educational skills to ensure best practice in the management of these studies adhering to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience Required
Essential
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent
- Registered by AHPRA
Desirable
- Previous research / clinical trial experience desirable.
