  • Permanent, Full-time position (40 hours per week, with Accrued Day Off)

About our team

Alfred Infant Child and Youth Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service is friendly to infants, children, young people and their families/carers.

We provide accessible mental health services inclusive of family, friends and support networks.

We are a specialist, multi-disciplinary and intensive care mental health service incorporating the lived and living experience of family peer specialists and youth peer workers.

Our service is divided into two streams: 0-11 and 12-26 years, and includes specialist services in the areas of perinatal care, neurodevelopmental presentations, eating disorders and outreach support.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage referrals to the service with a timely, compassionate and supportive response, working collaboratively with the child, young person, their families/carers, and existing support network
  • Undertake intake assessments (including triage and crisis responses) and make decisions about allocation of referrals to ensure best outcomes, supporting an integrated and streamlined pathway.
  • Single-session primary consultations and brief interventions, underpinned by Dialogical Practices.
  • Secondary consultations to key external services, building capacity, developing partnerships and collaborative working.

 

About you

Essential

  • Approved tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline and eligibility for membership of AHPRA (or the appropriate professional body) and minimum 5 years’ clinical experience:

Registered Nurse

  • Bachelor Degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent OR Bachelor Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
  • Approved postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.

Occupational Therapist

  • Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia via AHPRA

Psychologist

  • Registration as a Psychologist and Endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009), or eligibility and willingness to participate in a registrar training program leading to endorsement.
  • Masters or Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology

Social Worker

  • Approved Bachelor or Masters degree in Social Work
  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Desirable

  • Developmental Psychiatry Course or equivalent
  • Training and experience in providing child and youth mental health services

Other Helpful Skills & Knowledge

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development especially further studies relevant to child, adolescent and young adult mental health.
  • Ability and/ or interest in conducting research in the mental health field.
