The Department

Alfred Health Occupational Therapy Services operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals, with clinical services aligned to Alfred Health's strategic goals and operational performance targets. The Position

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and skilled Grade 2 Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Thearpy team at Alfred Health. This position is based at Sandringham Hospital, which provides healthcare to acute inpatients and outpatient clinics. The successful applicant will apply their knowledge, skill and expertise to deliver excellent clinical service to acutely unwell general medicine and orthopaedic inpatients. The Occupational Therapist will provide high-quality assessment and intervention to promote occupational performance, contribute to timely progression of care and facilitation of discharge pathways to home and the community for these patients. The will work closely and collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to contribute to care and quality of life for older patients. At Alfred Health, the Occupational Therapy service delivers a seven-day model of care. This full time position includes one weekend shift per week.  

At a Grade 2 level, Occupational Therapists are required to display autonomy of practice, whilst also contributing collaboratively to the multi-disciplinary team. There will also be opportunities for Grade 2 clinicians to be involved in various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service, and will be responsible for the supervision and mentoring of junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or undergraduate students.

Skills and Experience Required

  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in occupational therapy
  • Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, and eligibility for OTA membership
  • Clinical experience and knowledge of client-centred, occupational service delivery in an acute setting
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and modify service delivery in accordance with evidence-based practice
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary team with strong interpersonal skills 
  • Experience in supervision of junior staff and students is highly desirable
