Alfred Health

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.

Alfred Health is looking to recruit a Specialist in Human Molecular Pathology (Fractional) to work 0.2EFT. We will accept applications from credentialled applications in Genetic Pathology, or Haematology Molecular Pathology

Human Molecular Pathology has expanded greatly at Alfred Health in the last five years and is now one of the leading providers in Australia. A team of seven experienced and highly qualified scientific staff utilises state of the art sequencing equipment including an Illumina Nova-Seq 6000, as well as Next-Seq 500, and Mini-Seq machines. The service is NATA accredited and undertakes panel sequencing and WES with a wish to expand further into a number of relevant clinical disorders. We work in partnership with Transcendomics® with respect to data storage, information technology, variant curation, and larger national research projects.

Alfred Health has recently started a clinical genetics service with two experienced genetic counsellors and a full-time clinical geneticist and this unit will be a critical partner with molecular pathology in the provision of best practice precision medicine to our clinical colleagues.

The Human Molecular Pathology unit has an academic focus with an emphasis on development of new technologies, new bio-informatic pipelines and new opportunities for integration of genomics with population genetics and health economics at the Alfred campus. We are also involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in genome curation and clinical genetics (Monash University).

Applicants must be legally qualified practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a Fellow of The Royal Australian of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA). Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Molecular Pathology (any stream) is required as well as meeting Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice.

Enquiries: Please contact Prof Andrew Perkins on [email protected].

Alfred Health is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce that reflects the community we serve.  Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged.

In accordance with the Health Services Amendment (Mandatory Vaccination of Healthcare Workers) Act 2020, health care workers in Category A or B roles (as determined by the department’s risk ratings) are required to be vaccinated against influenza or hold an acceptable medical exemption.
