The Department

The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including; Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Health delivers a comprehensive suite of services which involves a range of diagnostic services, surgical, radiation and oncology therapies for cancer patients. The SCIg coordinator will report through the Alfred Cancer program, however will work with and across multiple departments within Alfred Health including, Alfred Brain, Heart and Lung, Surgical Services, Immunology, Pathology and Pharmacy.

The Role 

The SCIg coordinator encompasses skills and knowledge relating to patient triage, assessment, treatment care pathways, patient communication, follow up and education. The SCIg coordinator will provide patients, families and carers with information to optimise their understanding of their diagnosis and subsequent treatments. By communicating across units, disciplines and health services, the coordinator will improve patient flow and outcomes and ensure safe, patient-centred care is implemented across the entire care continuum.

Qualifications/Experience 

Registered Nurse with AHPRA
Post graduate qualification in cancer nursing or relevant health discipline or willingness to undertake such
Highly competent clinician, with ability to show initiative and enthusiasm and work autonomously
Demonstrated skills in program development and evaluation
Demonstrated understanding and experience with the multidisciplinary management of patients
Possess sound analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to manage a demanding workload, and effectively prioritise tasks
Able to drive culture, encompassing a person-centred focus, adaptability, respecting diversity, innovative thinking, application of evidence into practice and self-management
