About Our Team  

The Alfred Pathology Service (APS) is key to providing integrated and timely diagnostic capabilities as part of the largest public pathology laboratory network in Victoria. 

Alfred Health supports the local community while addressing complex state-wide needs, including trauma, organ transplantation and HIV/AIDS diagnostics. APS conducts all pathology testing for multiple hospitals, offering a comprehensive range of services through five specialized units: Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology. 

APS is committed to education and professional development, providing excellent learning opportunities for students and clinicians. Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership and are delivering pathology services at Western Health (WH), which includes, collection centres, branch laboratories at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital and point-of-care services.  We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services.  

Position Summary  

The Human Molecular Pathology unit at Alfred Pathology are looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician to support diagnostic services with a particular focus in the areas of molecular haematology and oncology. The scope of the role includes routine sample processing, white cell isolation, nucleic acid extraction, PCR setup and other laboratory administrative tasks.

About You  

Qualifications Required:  

  • Associate Diploma (Medical Science) or equivalent with subjects relevant to Molecular Biology

Experience and Skills Required:  

  • Experience in a NATA accredited laboratory 
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Able to work accurately with minimal supervision
  • Able to do repetitive work without losing concentration
  • Ability to function well in a team environment

Desirable Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with Cerner based LIS
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques
