Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department

The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Health delivers a comprehensive suite of services which involves a range of diagnostic services, surgical, radiation and oncology therapies. This now includes the Integrative Oncology Unit and Wellness Centre, established in 2024 to provide evidence-based supportive care for cancer patients.

An exceptional opportunity exists for a motivated and skilled Oncology Massage Therapist to join the Integrative Oncology Unit within the Alfred Cancer Program. This is your chance to be part of an innovative and rapidly evolving service that is redefining how supportive cancer care is delivered holistically to outpatients living with and beyond cancer.

Now in its second year of operation, the Integrative Oncology Unit is located within the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre (PFMCC)—a purpose-built, multidisciplinary centre designed to provide world-class, patient-centred care. The Unit delivers evidence-based therapies that sit alongside traditional oncology treatments, empowering patients and families to optimise health, wellbeing, and quality of life throughout their cancer journey.

The Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Oncology Massage Therapist to join the Integrative Oncology team. This role is an opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering evidence-based, holistic care, based in our award-winning Wellness Centre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialised oncology massage therapy tailored to the individual needs and treatment stages of cancer patients
  • Collaborate with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to deliver coordinated, person-centred care
  • Support patients’ physical and emotional wellbeing by helping to reduce treatment side effects and improve quality of life
  • Assess and monitor patient responses, adapting techniques to ensure safe and effective treatment
  • Educate patients about the benefits of massage as part of supportive cancer care
  • Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in accordance with professional standards
  • Contribute to quality improvement, research, and service development initiatives within the Integrative Oncology and Wellness Centre

You are an experienced and empathetic therapist who values the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people with cancer. You bring a person-centred approach to care and are confident working within a hospital or multidisciplinary environment.

You demonstrate sound clinical judgement, an understanding of the unique needs of oncology patients, and a commitment to delivering safe and effective massage therapy in line with current guidelines and best practice. Collaboration, compassion, and professionalism are key strengths you bring to your clinical practice.

You thrive in a team that provides holistic care and are eager to contribute to the continued development of innovative supportive care models at Alfred Cancer.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Relevant qualification from an accredited training organisation (e.g. Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy or Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy)
  • Completion of Modules 1–4 of Oncology Massage Training through Oncology Massage Training (OMT) or equivalent recognised training/experience in oncology massage
  • Current membership with a relevant professional association (e.g. Massage & Myotherapy Australia, Australian Association of Massage Therapists, or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ post-graduate experience in therapeutic massage, including experience in hospital or community health settings
  • Experience in oncology, palliative or supportive care is desirable
  • Strong communication skills and experience working within a multidisciplinary team
