The Department

The Forensic Clinical Specialist Program (FCSP) is funded by DHHS under the Adult Mental Health Reform Initiatives. Operating across Alfred Mental and Addiction Health (AMAH), including Adult, Child & Youth, and Aged Psychiatry services, the program was established to support consumers with severe mental illness and offending histories, including those involved with the criminal justice system or Forensicare statewide services. The FCSP builds workforce capability by providing specialist forensic consultation, risk assessment, clinical advice, behaviour and risk management planning, and service development support.

The Role

This is a unique and dynamic role that combines specialised clinical practice with project management, service development, education design and delivery, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in building forensic mental health capability across the service through education, advocacy, consultation, and collaboration.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical leadership, advanced forensic mental health knowledge, and highly developed assessment and risk management skills. They will be a compassionate and collaborative practitioner who can build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams. With a strong commitment to recovery-oriented and person-centred practice, they will be passionate about improving outcomes for consumers experiencing complex mental health and forensic challenges.

The role requires excellent organisational and communication skills, the ability to influence service development and workforce capability, and a dedication to advocacy, education, and continuous quality improvement.

Experience and Qualifications Required

• Approved tertiary qualifications and eligibility for membership with relevant registering body (Nursing and Midwifery Board / Occupational Therapy Board / Psychology Board via AHPRA, or eligibility with AASW)
• Postgraduate qualification in Forensic Behavioural Science or equivalent
• Extensive experience in forensic mental health, correctional, or related settings
• Post graduate experience – RPN/SW/OT: min 7 years or Psychologist: min 8 years
• Demonstrated expertise in working with consumers with mental illness, complex comorbidities and offending histories
• Advanced skills in forensic assessment, intervention, and risk management
• Australian working rights and current Influenza vaccination
• Be willing to complete a background check & have a satisfactory Working with Children Check
