Alfred Health

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department

The Finance Department provides financial and ancillary services to Alfred Health. These include Financial Accounting, Financial Services, Data and Analytics, Performance Monitoring and Reporting, Capital Expenditure and Asset Management, Accounts Payable and Receivable, Patient Revenue Services, Treasury, HRIS and Payroll, Procurement, Property and Supply Chain. 
The Financial Services Team within the Finance Department provides comprehensive financial support to all areas of Alfred Health, ensuring effective financial planning, monitoring, and reporting. Key functions include financial planning and analysis, finance business partnering, funding monitoring, and management accounting.

The Role

The Finance Business Partner reports to either the Manager, Corporate Support or the Manager, Finance Business Partners or the Senior Finance Business Partner depending on the Program. This role is responsible for accurate and timely financial budgeting, reporting, and providing customer-focused business partnering and financial support. Key duties include producing budgets, forecasting, financial analysis, and ensuring accurate month/year-end reporting. The role supports strategic decision-making and financial performance within clinical programs by analysing financial drivers, identifying efficiencies, and assuring the quality of financial elements, including business cases.  

The position involves building strong relationships with senior operational staff to integrate finance as a core component of operational units and helping teams develop strong financial and business skills. It ensures high-quality service delivery to both internal and external stakeholders, working closely with various managers, program directors, and senior staff across the health service.

Qualifications and Experience required

Essential

  • A business or accounting degree (or equivalent experience)
  • A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants or Certified Practicing Accountants (or international equivalent)

Desirable

  • Working understanding of project management and coordination
  • Experience and knowledge relating to work in Victorian Public Health
