About Us

Ngamai Wilam is a newly built 12-bed residential eating disorder treatment facility in Armadale, opening in May 2025. Jointly funded by the Australian Federal Government and the Victorian Government, this statewide specialist service is managed by Alfred Health.

Ngamai Wilam provides 24/7 trauma-informed, recovery-focused care for adults aged 18 and over in a gender-inclusive, home-like therapeutic environment. With a strong focus on family and chosen supports, our approach is deeply person-centred, prioritising dignity, choice, and long-term recovery.

As part of AMAH Statewide Services, alongside WREN (Women’s Recovery Network), Ngamai Wilam is at the forefront of innovative mental health care, integrating Open Dialogue principles to promote collaborative and holistic recovery.

About the Role

This position is sessional and provides an opportunity to develop specialist skills in exercise physiology within an eating disorder and mental health setting.

As our Exercise Physiologist at Ngamai Wilam, you will:

  • Play a vital role in supporting individuals on their recovery journey within a residential eating disorder program.
  • Facilitate individual and group exercise physiology sessions that promote physical well-being, emotional regulation, and engagement in recovery
  • Work autonomously within a small, supportive team, with direct access to leadership and clinical expertise.
  • Collaborate closely with nurses, peer workers, dietitians, and lived experience practitioners in a truly multidisciplinary environment.
  • Contribute to service development and innovation, ensuring best-practice care for participants.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Exercise Physiology.and accreditation with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP).
  • Experience providing exercise physiology interventions within mental health services, preferably in eating disorder treatment, trauma recovery, or inpatient/residential settings.
  • A passion for working with individuals experiencing eating disorders and a commitment to recovery-oriented practice.
  • Experience (or strong interest) in eating disorders across hospital, community, or specialised programs (desirable).
  • Postgraduate qualifications or working towards (desirable).
  • Minimum of two years’ post-graduate clinical experience in a mental health or related setting.
  • Experience working in residential or mental health settings (desirable).
  • A strong understanding of the Victorian Mental Health and Wellbeing Act (2022) and relevant legislation.
  • Current Victorian Driver License, Working with Children Check, and Background Check.
