Alfred Health

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department

The Medical Oncology (MONC) Unit provides multidisciplinary management for adult cancer patients. An important component of its continuous growth is the activation of service improvement and research projects. With strong affiliations with Monash University, the Unit has a growing portfolio of clinical and translational projects led by senior MONC clinicians across a wide range of tumour types.

The Role

Working with MONC clinicians and researchers, the position is responsible for coordinating grants acquisition and fundraising activities. The role also provides hands-on support to MONC clinicians and other staff members ensuring the successful planning, coordination, and ongoing management of service improvement and research projects.

Qualifications and Experience Required        

  • Tertiary degree in a related field, and/or equivalent experience in translational cancer research
  • Familiarity in various research setup processes, including budgeting, ethics submission, and research contract drafting and execution
  • Experience in establishing and/or facilitating research collaborations
  • Familiarity with grant funding application and research governance processes
  • Familiarity with the ethical and legal requirements of research activities involving human biospecimens, imaging data, and clinical metadata
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating fundraising and philanthropic activities or the desire to develop such experience
  • Proven ability to prioritise and manage demanding work commitments and deadlines autonomously
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and quality of documentation
  • Solid presentation, negotiation, and persuasion skills
