The Department

The Alfred Brain Program was established in July 2018 as part of an Alfred Health organisational restructure to strategically build on recent clinical academic recruitments by Alfred Health in neurosciences, in partnership with Monash University.  This serves the growing needs of Victorians and nationally for high-quality service delivery, translational research and training for Brain diseases. The Alfred Brain program builds on the historical strengths of medical and surgical neurosciences at The Alfred, recognising the integral partnership and important collaboration between Neurology & Neurosurgery. The Alfred Psychology Department includes Clinical Psychology & Clinical Neuropsychology.  The Alfred Neuropsychology service provides inpatient and outpatient assessment and treatment services to all Alfred programs.

Position Summary

The Department of Neurology, Alfred Hospital seeks a  Clinical Neuropsychologist to provide clinical neuropsychology services and positive behaviour support to the Neurology Department, in particular The Stroke Unit.  Participation in an interdisciplinary approach to treatment and care planning is essential. The part-time clinical neuropsychologist also contributes to quality improvement processes and educational programs within the Neurosciences Department and contributes to research projects. Supervision is provided by one of the senior clinical neuropsychologists.

Skills and Qualifications Required 

  • Sound knowledge of neuropsychological syndromes and neuropsychological assessment techniques for patients with stroke
  • Demonstrated clinical competence and experience in the application of neuropsychology in an acute health setting
  • Registration under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Victoria) Act 2009
  • Master or doctoral degree in Neuropsychology
  • Grade 3 -  five years work expereince as a Neuropsychologist, Endorsement in Neuropsychology  and Approved Supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Grade 2- endorsement in Neuropsychology or enrolled in a registrar program
