The Multidisciplinary Allied Health Assistant Department at Alfred Health currently have multiple permanent positions available:
- 4 positions available:
- Permanent, Full time, 1.0 EFT (80 hours per fortnight including monthly ADO) working Monday - Friday on a variety of inpatient wards
- Permanent, Full time, 1.0 EFT (80 hours per fortnight including monthly ADO) working Monday - Friday on Cancer Services Outpatient areas
- Permanent, Part time, 0.63 EFT (48 hours per fortnight) working weekdays on Cancer Services Inpatient wards
- Permanent, Part time, 0.6 EFT (45.6 hours per fortnight) working on a variety of inpatient wards *this position requires regular weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) work with days/hours variable upon negotiation
- Allied Health Assistant – Grade 2 (IN29) or Grade 3 (IN30) classification, dependent on experience
- May be required to work across any Alfred Health site - The Alfred, Caulfield or Sandringham Hospital locations

The Department
Alfred Health Allied Health comprises a number of Allied Health disciplines who provide patient-centred care across all clinical programs that operate at Alfred Health, including Allied Health Practitioners and Allied Health Assistants. The Allied Health team works closely with Nursing, Medical and Non-Clinical Support teams to provide a comprehensive and timely service to both inpatients and outpatients.
Alfred Health’s Multidisciplinary Allied Health Assistant Department provides support to a broad range of allied health professionals across all three sites at Alfred Health: The Alfred Hospital, Caulfield Hospital, and Sandringham Hospital. The department consists of more than 25EFT, and employs a large pool of casual staff. The department continues to develop partnerships with education providers, providing placement opportunities for students undertaking Allied Health Assistant qualifications.
The service at The Alfred Hospital is organised into multiple functional streams that works across our emergency department, acute wards, including our statewide services, outpatients, and home-based services.
Our service at Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital is organised into different wards, with allied health assistants providing support to an allocated team.
The Role
The Allied Health Assistant (AHA) works closely with the multidisciplinary Allied Health team to provide a flexible and responsive service that works to meet each patient’s identified therapeutic and discharge goals. The position is responsible for the implementation of individual interventions and/or therapy programs, as delegated by the treating therapists. The AHA will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide services that may include sourcing practical advice and providing support to patients and families to complete applications for services and benefits. The AHA will also be responsible for administrative and clinical support functions, which assist with patient management and contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the ward. It is a condition of employment that individuals may be required to work across all Alfred Health sites and services, including weekend and Public Holiday shifts as rostered
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Completion of Certificate IV (Allied Health Assistance) from a registered training organisation, OR
- Recognised equivalent qualification (as determined by the line manager)
- Higher qualification in a relevant health science discipline at Diploma or Associate Diploma level
- Certificate level qualification in a relevant health-related field
- Overseas-trained Allied Health practitioner with a qualification at Diploma level or higher
- Allied Health undergraduate student (in a relevant health science discipline) having successfully completed at least 1 year
- Applicants considered for the grade 3 classification must have a minimum of 3 years of experience (full-time equivalent)
