The Department
The Alfred Health Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which includes a number of clinical areas and units including; Medical Oncology, Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service.
Located in Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre, the Day Treatment Area provides care for patients providing systemic therapy for most adult solid tumours and blood cancers, as well as an apheresis and outpatient stem cell transplant service.
The day treatment area accommodates:
- Dedicated systemic anti-cancer therapy chairs
- Bone marrow biopsies
- Apheresis
- Co-located SURC clinic
- Co-located Cancer Clinical Trials
The Role
The Treatment Scheduler is an integral member of this team with the responsibility of coordinating appointments for patients attending for ambulatory cancer treatment. The scheduler primarily manages patients’ schedules and performs a wide variety of other tasks to support smooth operations within the unit. They engage with clinical staff in determining if appointments are consistent with the diagnosis/indications indicated by the provider. This includes guiding patients/carers on the time scheduled for their arrival or other directional information needed. The scheduler also functions as contact point with clinical staff, referral sources, and patients. They interface with other health workers as necessary to ensure a unified working relationship in delivering safe and timely patient care.
Experience and Skills Required
- Highly Desirable: previous experience in cancer services in a hospital environment
- Demonstrated computer proficiency including MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel (foundational)
- Personable, customer focused approach, and commitment to high quality service
- Understanding of confidentiality and privacy legislation
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Ability to plan workflow, prioritise and delegate to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to plan work flow, prioritise and delegate to meet deadlines
