Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

  • Role Details – Permanent Full Time 80 hours per fortnight 
  • Salary Package: $94,478.80 - $106,906.80 + Superannuation

About Our Team 

The Alfred Pathology Service (APS) is key to providing integrated and timely diagnostic capabilities as part of the largest public pathology laboratory network in Victoria. 

Alfred Health supports the local community while addressing complex state-wide needs, including trauma, organ transplantation and HIV/AIDS diagnostics. APS conducts all pathology testing for multiple hospitals, offering a comprehensive range of services through five specialized units: Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology. 

APS is committed to education and professional development, providing excellent learning opportunities for students and clinicians. Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership and are delivering pathology services at Western Health (WH), which includes, collection centres, branch laboratories at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital and point-of-care services.  We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services. 

Position Summary 

The Anatomical Pathology Unit comprises of Histopathology and Cytopathology. The role requires the incumbent to work primarily in the Cytology section applying a broad range of Cytological techniques. In this role, you will:

  • Work as a team member in the Cytopathology section in the provision of diagnostic laboratory services
  • Perform specimen processing, including specimen registration, slide preparation and staining
  • Perform rapid onsite assessment at radiological guided FNA, EBUS and EUS procedures
  • Perform primary screening and issue screening reports for pathologists

About You 

Qualifications Required: 

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine with a major in Cytology (or recognised equivalent) is required. A Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) from an Australian or New Zealand University is preferred.
  • Specific post-graduate qualifications in cytopathology such as CTASC and/or CTIAC or verifiable progression towards such qualifications.

Experience and Skills Required: 

  • Possess sound scientific, technical and professional knowledge in cytology and associated techniques
  • Maturity, sound organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively with medical, scientific and administrative staff both verbally and written
  • High attention to detail with a determination to see tasks through to completion.
  • Capacity to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
  • Adaptability consistent with a multi-task environment and diversified service.
  • Ability to work safely in a potentially hazardous environment.
