Department Summary

Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a formal partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service as one of three new pathology networks for metropolitan Melbourne. All roles in the Pathology Programs are working to develop the Partnership and ensure we continue to provide high quality care for the patients across the health services. Alfred Pathology Service (APS) provides a comprehensive range of pathology testing, consultation services and collection services to clinicians and patients of Alfred Health. The Service has 5 units (Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Microbiology, Human Molecular Pathology), each headed by a Unit Head. APS has the core laboratory at The Alfred as well as a small local laboratory at Sandringham hospital. APS has several collection centres and is responsible for specimen collection of about 50% of its samples. 

Position Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated Administration officer based within Anatomical Pathology, who is responsible the organisation and administration duties including personal assistance to the Unit Director. The role supports the function of the Anatomical Pathology Unit by performing a range of tasks including providing reception duties, telephone enquiries and multidisciplinary meeting coordination.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to organise daily work in a careful and accurate way, with a high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Pleasant telephone manner and good spoken English
  • Understanding of medical terminology
  • Experience in office procedures, particularly in a pathology service, hospital or medical environment
  • Computer proficiency with ccompetency in keyboard/word processing and the MS Office suite of software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people of varying backgrounds and ability to contribute to a cohesive team environment are expected
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently
  • Ability to use initiative and anticipate needs while working under pressure.
