The Department

Alfred Mental & Addiction Health is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a mental illness residing in the Inner Southeastern area of Melbourne.

The Adult and Older Adult Service combines AMAH Adult/Older Adult Community Mental Health and Caulfield Aged and Liaison Psychiatry Services to provide comprehensive, person-centred support for adults and older adults. We offer a wide range of therapeutic, addiction, trauma-informed, and family violence services.

In line with the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health recommendations and the Victorian Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, we are expanding our services to provide specialized expertise and broad-spectrum care, including pathways for substance use, rehabilitation, recovery, and trauma-focused care.

Our approach focuses on integrated treatment, education, peer support, care planning, and navigation, supporting individuals at every stage of their recovery journey.

Join us in reshaping mental health care with compassionate, specialised support to create meaningful change for our community.

The Homeless Outreach Psychiatric Service (HOPS) provide specialist psychiatric clinical services and intensive support for adult clients aged 25 to 64 years who are experiencing mental illness and homelessness, itinerancy or are at risk of homelessness. A high proportion of HOPS clients have comorbid substance use disorders. As well as providing assertive case management services, the HOPS service delivery model also includes extensive triage, assessment, referral and secondary consultation services to several key homeless agencies within the Inner South catchment area. This extended service aims for better integration of services to prevent illness progression and earlier intervention to reduce the need for hospitalisation.
