  • 2 Permanent positions available (part-time)
  • 30 hours per fortnight at Sandringham Hospital, 60 hours per fortnight at The Alfred Hospital
  • The part-time hours at The Alfred Hospital can be allocated to both positions

The Department

Alfred Health Allied Health comprises a number of Allied Health disciplines that provide patient-centred care across all clinical programs that operate at Alfred Health. Allied Health disciplines provide care that optimises physical, psychosocial, communication and cognitive functioning. The Allied Health Professional Practice Framework underpins the work of Allied Health in contributing to Alfred Health’s purpose. The Spiritual Care Department sits within the Allied Health directorate.

The Position Summary

The Spiritual Care Department is part of the multi-disciplinary team of the hospital and provides support to patients, families and carers inclusive of spiritual, religious, existential beliefs and meaning-making.  Alfred Health Spiritual Care Services are committed to promoting healing by providing patients and their families from all walks of life with compassionate spiritual care, open-hearted listening and a caring presence.

Working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, you will bring a commitment to high-quality and professional Spiritual Care practices. Thorough knowledge of spiritual assessment and a broad range of interventions will be integral to your ability to establish connections with patients, families, carers and staff effectively. Strong interpersonal and organisational skills will support your ability to work independently and contribute to a supportive team environment. 

We welcome applications from Spiritual Care Practitioners with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Advanced Certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education (or pursuing) or demonstrated equivalent in acute clinical healthcare setting
  • Bachelors' degree in Theology, Counselling, Social Sciences or equivalent
  • Thorough organisational, prioritisation, and decision-making skills
  • Eligible for certified membership of Spiritual Care Australia
  • Advanced training and experience for Palliative and Cancer Care Spiritual Practitioner role
  • Grief and Bereavement training
