About the Department
Alfred Care Group Pharmacy Department is well recognised for high quality and innovative patient- focused services, education and training programmes as well as significant research output. The service operates over 4 sites within The Alfred Care Group, and continually advocates for postgraduate learning and research interests, with supportive partnerships and expert mentors available to foster staff development.
The department also has a leading Digital Health strategy, playing a pivotal role in managing the electronic medicine management system within our comprehensive electronic medical record (Cerner), with an advanced level of integration linking this to the Pharmacy Dispensing (iPharmacy) and Automated Medication Storage systems (Omnicell). This is complemented by a strong clinical presence and a Centre for Medicine Use and Safety program to achieve a considered, safe and financially responsible approach to medicine management within the Alfred Care Group.

About the Team
Our pharmacists are recognised as essential members of all clinical teams, actively engaging in a unit and team-based care model involving ward rounds and collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve excellent patient care outcomes. There are vast opportunities to engage in Advanced Scopes of Practice. This includes undertaking credentialing programs and leading clinical activities such as Partnered Pharmacist Medicine Charting, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Nicotine Replacement Therapy, and Analgesia de-escalation, to name a few.

As part of these priorities, the department holds a breadth of clinical stewardship and governance portfolios to ensure high quality and safety standards at all times. The department also has advanced Education programs with Foundation Residency and Advanced Training Residency to support career progression, including opportunities to rotate to external hospitals.
About the Role
If you are excited about the pursuit of the best experience and health outcomes for patients, pushing boundaries and setting new standards in the realm of medicines safety this is the role for you!
Working closely with the Lead Pharmacist – Medicines Safety, you will assist with the management of the medicines safety portfolio both at a strategic and day-to-day level. You will monitor, review and improve systems, across both the Pharmacy department and the wider organisation. You will work with pharmacy staff, such as Stewardship Pharmacists and the Pharmacy Digital Health team, to develop and maintain initiatives to manage clinical risk across the Alfred Care Group. You will also liaise with other stakeholders, as part of multidisciplinary meetings and consultations.
This is a permanent Full-Time appointment to the medicines safety team whilst working across both the medicines safety and clinical pharmacy teams. Candidates will be considered for a permanent part-time position to medicines safety if desired
- Full-Time positions are 80 hrs/fortnight + ADO
Key Skills
- Knowledge of key medicines safety principles and their application in everyday practice
- Ability to demonstrate leadership and decision making skills
- Problem-solving and risk assessment abilities and the ability to use initiative
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise, plan and organise your work and deliver to deadlines
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills including report writing
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
Qualifications & Experience required
- Registered pharmacist in Australia
- Experience in medicines safety or governance, including accreditation processes
- Experience in quality improvement projects
- Relevant post-graduate qualification in pharmacy or health discipline highly desirable
- Extensive clinical pharmacy experience in a tertiary care setting with a demonstrated understanding of contemporary practice in hospital pharmacy services highly desirable
