About Our Team
The Alfred Pathology Service (APS) is key to providing integrated and timely diagnostic capabilities as part of the largest public pathology laboratory network in Victoria.
Alfred Health supports the local community while addressing complex state-wide needs, including trauma, organ transplantation and HIV/AIDS diagnostics. APS conducts all pathology testing for multiple hospitals, offering a comprehensive range of services through five specialized units: Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology.

Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership and are delivering pathology services at Western Health (WH), which includes, collection centres, branch laboratories at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital and point-of-care services. We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services.
Position Summary
To perform a wide range of routine Molecular Microbiology tests unsupervised (after a period of training) and participate in rosters and out-of-hours commitments of a Molecular Microbiology laboratory. In addition to these duties, staff in this role will carry out day-to-day quality activities, including equipment maintenance and participation in quality assurance programs. Staff will also be required to assist with general house-keeping duties, including but not limited to stocktake of consumables, general reagent preparation and unpacking of deliveries, as required.
About You
Qualifications Required:
- BSc or BAppSc with a major in Molecular Biology, Microbiology.
Experience and Skills Required:
- Experience in Molecular Biology techniques
- Previous experience in a diagnostic Microbiology or Molecular Biology laboratory.
