Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.

The Hepatopancreatobiliary and General Surgery unit is a newly created specialist unit at the Alfred hospital with particular interests in HepatoPancreatoBiliary (HPB) surgery and innovative oncological care as well as acute general and trauma surgery. The unit consists of six active clinical surgeons, who in addition are committed to teaching and research.

This 2025 full-time fellowship position offers an outstanding opportunity for training in HPB Surgery as well as trauma and acute general surgery.  The HPB fellow will work across the unit, focussing particularly on the peri-operative and operative aspects of HPB surgery including a weekly outpatient clinic and MDT and five operating lists per week. The fellow will also participate in the on-call roster for emergency surgery, facilitate completing of in-hours non-elective cases and also assess HPB referrals. 

The successful applicant will be responsible to the Director of the Hepatopancreatobiliary and General Surgery Unit, Mr Marty Smith.

Applicants should hold, or expect to hold at the commencement of the fellowship, a FRACS or equivalent, and should be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
